The hill state of Uttaranchal is yet another charming region of North India. When you take our Uttarakhand Holiday Package, you will be visiting a state covered by hills and mountains, with numerous singing streams, waterfalls, flowery meadows, fruit-laden orchard trees, and a rich variety of flora and fauna. Famous palaces: Mussoorie, Nainital, Ranikhet, Auli, and off-the-beaten-track hill resorts such as Chopta. Dehradoon is the state capital nestling amidst the Himalayas and Shivaliks. It’s known for the Indian Military Academy and the Forest Research Institute, which is lined with some of the tallest trees in the country. A Deer Park and Robber’s Cave are much visited spots.
Mussoorie, above Dehradoon, also called ‘Queen of the Hills’ has lush hills, pretty valleys, waterfalls, lovely gardens, and spectacular views of the Shivaliks and the Doon valley. Places worth seeing here include: Lal Tibba – its highest point; Gun Hill; Camelback Road; Municipal Gardens; Kempty Falls; Lake Mist; Bhatta and Jharipani Falls; Nag Devta Temple; Cloud End; and, Sir George Everest’s house – after whom Mt Everest was named, besides the famous Mall Road for shopping.
Nainital has the beautiful Naini Lake amidst green hills and many renowned temples. Snow View Point, at a height of 2,260-m above sea level, gives breathtakingly marvellous view of Nainital; a cable car takes tourists up or you can go on horseback. The climate has cured many of lung ailments. Trekking, horse-riding, boating, and yachting are popular pastimes.
Ranikhet is a charming hill station resting in pine-covered hills and winsome meadows. It has shady glens where you can picnic or trek up its sheer cliffs to get unforgettable views of the snow-clad Himalayas. Chaubatia’s orchards, Upat’s rich pine forests, Bhaludam with artificial lakes and picnic spots, and the quiet Khairna are other places people like to visit.
Auli, near Joshimath, is popular with skiers as it has one of Asia’s longest skiing slopes. With grassy slopes and the Alaknanda gorge on its northern side, it is also frequented by those who wish to relax.
You can get the best out of your Uttarakhand Holiday Package, which can be customised according to your requirement. If you wish to go on a pilgrimage tour, there are sacred places aplenty: Hardwar, Rishikesh, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Lakshman-Ganga valley, and Hemkund Sahib. Each of them needs no introduction to the devout. Most of these nestle in hills, amidst splendid scenery. The Valley of Flowers, near Hemkund Sahib, was unknown till 1931. It was discovered by chance by a British mountaineer, Frank Smith, who lost his way and reached this amazingly colourful valley, carpeted with hundreds of species of colourful flowers, insects, birds, and butterflies.
For the adventure-seekers, the Uttarakhand Holiday Package has plenty in store by way of trekking up to mountain peaks, skiing, camping, mountain biking, bungee jumping, ziplining, white water rafting, rock climbing, and wildlife safaris. Being a hilly region, it is fairly cool even during the summer when light woollens are needed; in winters, you’ll definitely need thick woollens. But no matter when you go, or which place you choose to visit, you’ll come back with heart-warming memories.
