At a height alternating between 9,000-25,000 feet, Leh & Ladakh is the northern-most part of Jammu & Kashmir. Separated from Kashmir by the Pir Panjal range, Ladakh is mountain country. Our Leh & Ladakh Holiday Package will lead you to a land of stunning beauty with glaciers, frozen valleys, and sheer cliffs of snow. There are alpine steppes in places, while at some places it is starkly bare, but strikingly beautiful. The world’s highest cold desert is in Leh, at about 3,500 metres above the sea, with many coloured rocks.
Being at a great height, the climate in Ladakh is generally cold and tourists need one or two days to get used to the cold weather. River-rafting is undertaken in the Zanskar and Indus Rivers. However, it is best to be accompanied by professional rafters. Experienced as well as amateur rafters enjoy this water sport. There are rafting packages that combine camping in the wilderness.
Trekking is very popular, and there are jeep safaris to take you around. The beautiful Nubra or Ldumra Valley, called the Valley of Flowers, at 10,000 feet above the sea, is another tourist favourite. The Nubra district has spectacular views of majestic peaks and glaciers, as well as pretty meadows and valleys. Tourists can opt for short walks, day-long walks, and even go on for weeks. You may well find yaks and demos grazing, and even the endangered snow leopard, gazelles, and ibex.
In your Leh and Ladakh Holiday Package, if you go for mountain climbing in the Karakoram ranges, you will need permission to scale the highest peaks of Nun and Kun, and also require advance bookings! Foreigners need special permission to scale these mountains, and its best to take a guide along. Other interesting activities include camel safaris and sunbathing in Hunder’s sand dunes!
